I got straight up rejected for both the payroll job and the office admin job.

As in, NOT EVEN AN INTERVIEW.

For the love of god, if I can't even get an interview for jobs like these? What the bloody hell hope have I got of getting anything?!

You had a job at the time though, right? I'm totally freaking out that my period of unemployment is just going to ger longer and longer... if I'm having trouble NOW at the 6-month point...?

Maybe they thought you were "overqualified". People do that. OR there could have also been that evil evil "we are advertising as legally required but we've actually filled the position internally" thing, which I don't fully understand but which I know definitely used to happen.

Still happens for sure. Company F, who I've seen even MOAR jobs advertised for recently, is well known for it.
