I'd be wary too, but otoh the person might just be gung-ho and young and constantly working like a big sales wanker tends to do when not on the piss or driving his big Porsche round and round really fast or on his boat or whatever. If it's dirty old commission only I'd be NO FUCKING THANKS unless Himself really really REALLY wants you to take it, but I reckon you would be better with Just Anything in the interim, because you'll feel better, be contributing etc. You can always keep looking.
Seeing as how I am Old and have lived through some hardass recessions as an adult before, I'm going to say that it is absolutely not going to fuck things up for you IMO if you end up doing work that's not on the career path or whatever. People get recessions. It's absolutely fine to be able to say "I got made redundant/moved towns/whatever and couldn't get work in my field due to The Global Economic Downturn so I took a job as a cleaner/toilet roll model/sales person because that was available and I wanted/needed an income." It shows you're flexible and not afraid of hard work yadda yadda. Well, that's what I think. Everyone who is not a dickhead or a 12 year old understands that a lot of the time it's not a person's fault if they don't have a Model Career Path type CV, and in many cases it can be a plus.
I hope they offer you something that has an actual WAGE.
